Postings here, document and acknowledge the achievements of individuals honored by the Structural Engineers Association of Washington (SEAW) since the 1950 establishment of the organization.
Frank Hofmeister - Life Member 1988
E. Frank Hofmeister, at the time of his engineering studies at the University of Colorado, worked for the US Geologic Survey, doing second order level work in Montana, setting benchmarks for areas surveyed.
Frank's professional experience includes the design of the first aluminum highway sign structures on the Seattle freeway (I-5), and numerous aluminum curtain walls for various office buildings in the Northwest and California. He has also designed many steel industrial buildings, cast-in-place and precast concrete buildings, single- and multi-story wood frame buildings, as well as highway bridges in California and Washington.
Frank joined the firm Harvey R. Dodd & Associates in 1962 as a project engineer, becoming a principal in 1964. At the time of the Seattle World's Fair the Dodd firm did minor work on the Space Needle and other structures.
Frank served on the SEAW Code Advisory Committee and on the Board of Directors of SEAW Seattle. As part of his Board service, he represented SEAW on the ICBO General Design Committee.
While making a cross-country family trip in 2012, Frank tried to locate a benchmark he'd placed on a Montana bridge abutment, but found a rebuilt bridge, and the benchmark gone.
