Nancy Duevel - Engineer of the Year 2006
SEAW honored Nancy Miller Duevel (BSCE Clarkson University 1969, MSCE Southern Methodist University 1989) as Engineer of the Year as she completed her second term as one of two structural engineers on the Washington State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. In this role she worked diligently to uphold the standards of the profession by investigating structural and general complaints, to ensure mobility of Structural Engineers within the US, and to open dialogues toward increasing mobility internationally. While on the Board, Nancy helped establish the Board’s support of the 2001 statutory revision developed by SEAW that preserved the status of the practice of structural engineering as a specialty discipline requiring additional experience and training beyond education and licensure. Nancy also assisted in the development and implementation of Washington's SE III Seismic Exam and in the further development of this exam into a regional exam given in Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia.
Nancy, a member of SEAW beginning in 1994, moved to Seattle from Dallas in 1989, and has worked with the firm of Brown and Caldwell.
Nancy held a committee position on the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), and also served on the Board of Directors of the Washington Society of Professional Engineers. In 2004, the Puget Sound Engineering Council recognized her as Professional Engineer of the Year.
