Peter J. Hart grew up in Southern Arizona, and received his BSCE from the University of Arizona in 1973. After graduation he worked construction and mining projects in Arizona and Colorado. He then worked for a year and half in Saudi Arabia for M M Sundt, with the "fringe benefit" of world travel during and after his Middle East stint. He returned to the US in the late '70s, settling in Seattle -- which at the time boasted the Smith Tower as its tallest structure. Peter studied structural engineering at the University of Washington, receiving the MSCE in 1980, advised by Professor Bill Hartz.

Restarting his career after graduation, he worked with KPFF and TRA in the early '80s, involved in building structures exceeding the Smith Tower in height. In 1987 he and Charlie Griffes established CT Engineering in Seattle. Over the years the firm grew from two to 12 engineers, serving a very diverse clientele. CT project range from small single-family homes to multi-story residential apartment buildings, small retail to large big box stores, churches to industrial projects, and from retro-fits to new construction. Peter's expertise lies in multi-use commercial-residential projects, deep excavation shoring, post-tension concrete, and wood/timber design. Among recent projects: Olympic Athletic Club & Hotel in Ballard, Madrona House (Assisted Living) on Bainbridge Island, Mid-Mountain Lodge at the White Pass Ski Area, St. George's Orthodox Coptic Church in Redmond, and the Schnitzer Steel Non-Ferrous Metal Recovery Building in Tacoma.

In the early '80s Peter began his participation in the Seattle community with the local ASCE chapter as YMF Chair, Director, and Treasurer. Since joining SEAW in 1983, Peter has taken an active role on the Seattle Board (from Director to President 2005), the Building/Wood committee, SEAW/WABO liaison committee, Education Committee (Serviceability for Floor Systems, Cold-Formed Steel, and Existing Building seminars, the 2007 SEA Northwest Conference, the pre-dinner mini-seminars, and the Refresher Course committee), and instructing Wood and Timber content for over 10 years.
