A Spokane native, Stephen J. Shrope received the BSCE from WSU in 1970 and the MSCE in 1985. He worked as a Structural Engineer for the US Navy for several years before returning to Spokane to work with Bovay Engineers, and later became a senior project manager with Womer & Associates, Spokane. With David Evans and Associates, he worked on the 2005 restoration of Spokane's Monroe Street Bridge as Principal in Charge.

In addition to his SEAW activities, Steve has served on the WSU Civil Engineering Advisory Board.

In Fall 2010, Governor Gregoire appointed Steve Shrope to the Washington State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.
